Auto-trol’s KONFIG® CM Chosen by Honeywell Space Systems as its Fourth Generation Product Data Management Solution

Reduced Program Engineering Order Cycle Time is Primary Benefit of KONFIG® CM PDM Implementation

Denver, Colorado
1 October 1999. For immediate release

Auto-trol Technology Corporation today announced a production order for its KONFIG® CM (formally CENTRA 2000®) Product Data Management (PDM) system from Honeywell Space Systems. Honeywell initially will implement KONFIG® CM within the Space and Strategic Systems Operation (SASSO) located in Clearwater, FL. Honeywell Space Systems, with operations in Clearwater, Phoenix, and Houston, designs, develops, and produces data controls, momentum controls, mechanisms, vibration isolation electronics, guidance and navigation, and control components and systems for manned and unmanned space applications.

Honeywell SASSO is implementing the KONFIG® CM PDM system to achieve reduced program Engineering Order (EO) cycle time using workflow management and migration of web-based document management to a Y2K compliant technology. Honeywell plans to use Vaulting, View and Markup, Configuration Management, Product Structures, and Workflow, as well as CENTRAWeb™. The production system is made up of an initial 74 concurrent licenses to support up to 10 programs by year end and some 30 additional programs in the year 2000. Honeywell SASSO expects to expand KONFIG® CM use to include the entire engineering organization at the Clearwater campus.

"We purchased KONFIG® CM after a formal proposal and benchmark qualification process to match PDM supplier capabilities with our aerospace business needs," said James Stone, Honeywell Senior Engineering Fellow. "This is our 4th generation of PDM implementations, so we had detailed requirements and expectations for the candidate suppliers. KONFIG® CM was selected based on technical capability and lifecycle costs for our business environment. The use of the web as a user interface in combination with an object oriented business model will enable us to tailor program instances to meet our customer needs for electronic information exchanges and participation on integrated product development teams."
