Centra Technology introduces industry's first EDM/PDM software 'Try-Before-You-Buy' scheme
Wolverhampton. 30 December 1998. For immediate release.
Ref. NDM 136/98

Wolverhampton-based Centra Technology Ltd., the engineering document management and product data management (EDM/PDM) software developer and systems integrator, has introduced what it claims is the document and data management software industry's first 'try-before-you-buy' scheme.

Called Prove IT, the scheme applies to the company's KONFIG® CM (formally CENTRA 2000®) software suite and is completely free to qualified prospective customers. It has been developed to help companies intending to implement an engineering document or product data management system to evaluate and select the appropriate technology for their own particular requirements.

Barry Jones, Centra Technology's UK general manager, said, "The principal motivations to acquiring and implementing an EDM/PDM system are related to an organisation's bottom line. Systems are acquired in order to improve time-to-market, reduce costs and improve a company's competitive position. So nobody can afford to make a wrong decision when selecting a system because that can not only lead to the original business issues continuing unabated but may actually aggravate them through the cost of acquiring, learning and implementing a system which then falls short of the mark".

"Our Prove IT scheme", he continued, "therefore marks a dramatic departure from the industry's historic way of doing business, which too often in the past has led to failed projects. Based on early feed-back from the market the scheme is being regarded as the approach needed by EDM/PDM system buyers for them to make a properly informed decision".

Participants in the Prove IT scheme will be provided with a work-sheet to enable them to collect a representative set of information concerning their business processes, problems and issues. This information will then form the basis of a rigorous, day long session with Centra Technology's technical staff, during which attendees will learn to use the KONFIG® CM system in a production setting. Using their own company data, participants will create product assemblies, bills of materials and document structures, create work-flows, input new information, modify the structure of their information and output the results to reports or neutral files. A question and answer session will then follow.

Developed and launched in the USA earlier this year, the Prove IT scheme will commence in the UK before the end of the year.
