Latest Release Features Easy-to-Use, Process-based Functionality and Video-based Training Tutorials

Auto-trol Technology today announced that it is now shipping release 12.2 of its technical illustration and electronic publishing product, Tech Illustrator (TI) for Windows. This product release includes both the flagship TI Plus and the popular mid-range TI Express applications. The release offers nearly 50 new development and customer-initiated features and enhancements that incorporate many process-based tasks and provide more intuitive and streamlined accessibility to this functionality through context menus.

Tech Illustrator has always delivered an impressive ROI due to its ability to be highly customized for any production process, which is still the case. But with this release, Auto-trol has focused on making TI easier to use and quicker to implement right 'out-of-the-box'. To facilitate this process, TI includes a new Getting Started toolbar featuring a product introduction and video-based training tutorials. Although this release is geared to new or novice TI users, these features and enhanced functionality can also increase efficiency and output for experienced and advanced users.

Among the most beneficial features and enhancements are:

  • New Select tool that simplifies user-selection of items. TI now goes from an always-on-construction mode to an always-on-selection mode.
  • Tabbed toolbars are now available. Users have the option to use TI's tabbed toolbars or to create custom tabbed toolbars containing only those toolbars most frequently used. An additional feature is the ability to position the tab window anywhere on the screen or dock it to the top of the TI main window.
  • Right-clicking in a drawing area opens a new context menu that offers cut, copy, paste, move, duplicate, delete, group, and ungroup functions. These 'static' operations are complemented by TI's Dynamic toolset, which also offers context menu commands in an 'on-the-fly' or dynamic mode.
  • The new Symbol Tool allows more streamlined access to standard and customer generated clip art sheets. A new user interface surfaces the Symbol Tool as a separate application within TI. Now with true drag-and-drop functionality tied to the flexibility of the legacy Symbol Tool, users can quickly view and select clip art with a simple mouse click.

The increased accessibility to TI's powerful functionality makes it much easier for users at all levels to truly achieve the full benefit of this outstanding electronic publishing and illustration tool, said Tim Horsch, Tech Illustrator Product Manager. With the last major TI release, it was our intention to lay a foundation that would allow us to add enhancements more quickly and easily. With this release of TI, we have demonstrated that the evolution of the product has indeed allowed us to reach that goal."

"With the TI 12.2 release, we redesigned the product to follow the natural workflow of illustration processes," said Kevin O'Kane, Auto-trol Director of R&D. "This will significantly lower the total cost of training for new users and increase the productivity of experienced Tech Illustrator users."
