Latest Release Features Windows 2000 Support and Offers Series of New Enhancements to Mid-range TI Express Product

Auto-trol Technology today announced that it is now shipping release 12.1 of its native Microsoft® technical illustration product, Tech Illustrator (TI™) for Windows NT. This product release includes both the flagship TI Plus™ and the popular mid-range TI Express applications. Along with Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 and Windows 2000 support, the release offers nearly 70 new features and enhancements in TI Express that provide advanced functionality previously available only in TI Plus. An even easier and more streamlined product installation has been achieved by eliminating registry dependence.

Among the most beneficial TI Plus features added to TI Express are:

  • Under the Item menu, the Special Duplicate tool includes Duplicate/Repeat, Duplicate in a Row, and Duplicate at Z
  • The axonometric and orthographic toolbars now include five-point ellipses to match existing geometry
  • The annotation toolbar now includes Text Around A Cylinder, which allows the user to select existing text and wrap it around an imaginary cylinder
  • Reference Points to Symbols, now part of the Symbols toolbar, allows users to replace reference points with a selected symbol
  • Ability to adjust Text Aspect Ratio on imported CAD models

After spending many years in the aerospace industry as a TI customer, Tim Horsch, Auto-trol's new Tech Illustrator product manager, has a unique perspective on product development and what it means to the end-user. "I am very pleased with the outcome of TI 12.1, my first release as the Tech Illustrator product manager. The added functionality within TI Express, and a superior suite of converters, continue to make Tech Illustrator the electronic publishing and illustration industry workhorse. I am excited about the future of the product, and I am pleased to be a member of the Tech Illustrator team."

With the migration of some TI Plus features and functionality to TI Express, changes to the mid-range product are more evident. Said Shane Garrett, Project Manager for Electronic Publishing Solutions at Auto-trol, "With this product release, it was our goal to provide a seamless port to Windows 2000 and the next OS release level, without significant changes to the application interface. But of major significance to future product development, both TI Express and TI Plus have now reached a level of maturity designed to accelerate the addition of major enhancements. Auto-trol has traditionally been an industry leader in the field of electronic publishing, and with this release of Tech Illustrator, I believe we are demonstrating our intent to continue in that tradition."
